How to protect your outdoor air conditioner?
- Posted by Renaud
Although an air conditioner is often necessary to guarantee comfort during hot seasons, its installation is subject to technical and aesthetic constraints. Choosing a cover for the outdoor unit allows to keep the charm of the facade and to protect the device. Discover the solutions available to you.
Solution 1: Plants and planters
The outdoor unit of a reversible air-conditioning system is relatively bulky and unsightly. If your home has a garden, balcony or terrace, you may want to consider hiding the unit behind plants. In this case, the air conditioner will harmonize with your landscaping.
If your PAC monosplit is attached to the wall, you can build a strong trellis that will surround your air conditioner and support leafy plants. If the air conditioning is installed on the ground or near a window, why not opt for a planter? Well chosen, it will allow you to camouflage the device, while brightening up your facade. For your plant caches, choose hardy plants that can withstand all seasons, such as cytis, jasmine, petunia or clematis.
Above, our Chameleon air conditioner cover perfectly adapted to the facade.
In any case, you will have to allow sufficient space between the air conditioning unit and the plant cover when defining its dimensions. The cover must not touch the unit, in order to let the air circulate and ensure its cooling, but also to prevent dead leaves from falling into your reversible heat pump. The installation of the planter or plant wall will also have to take into account regular watering and the size of the plants. Debris and water coming into contact with the unit can weaken it over time and reduce its life.
Solution n°2: Adopt the air conditioner cover
A window box or planter requires a certain amount of maintenance. Climate covers are a practical and easy to install alternative.
PAC CONCEPT offers wooden models topped with artificial foliage that imitates planters and plant hiding places to perfection. They are an excellent solution for a natural look. We offer a wide choice of artificial vegetation to adapt our air conditioners to your outdoor décor. The foliage is treated against UV rays to preserve its appearance and colour for a long time.
We also offer steel, slate and wrought-iron air conditioners if you are looking for a more contemporary solution. We design custom-made climate-covers in various colours that will blend in perfectly with your facades. The models benefit from an adapted treatment to protect them against climatic hazards and facilitate their maintenance. They are made of robust materials, which effectively protect the CAP against theft or vandalism.
The climate-covers also have the advantage of respecting the technical constraints of heat pumps and air conditioning. They are designed with proper ventilation so as not to affect the quality of the air circulating in the house. The air treatment will be done correctly, so you will not see an increase in your energy consumption.
